Bringing Back the Shine: A Farm Land Rover’s Road to Show-Ready
A pure backstory to a honest truck:
As we all know Land Rovers at birth belong on the harsh and testing terrains of a farm; churning mud and gravel wherever it’s duty requires. Some of these lucky industrious work horses get selected for an entire makeover after a life of tireless, tough, painstaking work.
The Defender we are about to talk about today has certainly lived up to its intended purpose of carrying the heavy loads over testing terrain on British soil. A 1991 200TDI Defender 90 is certainly a special car without a doubt, especially when it has plenty of history behind the cross member. Spending years as a shooting truck off-road in a farm near Suffolk, it had served a duty to it’s owners; however, while doing so it was being worn down to the bone, growing grass inside the chassis after living outside day and night.
A glimpse into it’s new life ahead:
Eventually the strong Defender was brought out of it’s career and into retirement due to it being dilapidated, being bought by a gentleman who was eager and determined to restore her, however that didn’t quite go as planned. Not only did the chap who wanted bring this Landy to life and use it to its full potential again not get the chance to even start, but sadly had to sell it shortly after. Unable to see his dreams of making his perfect Defender come true, he mournfully passed it onto another keen spirit to resurrect it.
The story continues into the hands of the current owner, who has been optimistic with many previous restorations, decided to take on the challenge of this sorrowed Land Rover. Simply taking a look around this battered Landy would make you have second thoughts within seconds; however, this won’t be another owner who gives up on a gruelling challenge.
A long awaited renovation:
The first plan with the new owner was to get rid of that rotten, decaying, crumbling chassis! But of course with any Land Rover which has lived a hard life, it’s never just one big fix, leading to all new parts to bring the factory gleam in this once triumphant Landy back to life. Hours and hours of searching through the vehicles insides to find every problem, with mud and dirt falling constantly onto the new owner as he worked endlessly to help this wounded Defender.
Pictured above is a snippet of the disassembly:
All new shiny paint acquainted to a glistening galvanised chassis:
Having thousands poured into this once tired and hopeless Defender, she started to look as if it belonged on a factory floor, ready for a new enthusiast to enjoy. Sparking with life once again.
After this extensive restoration, this beauty is ready to be thoroughly enjoyed by it’s next owner. Sitting at 140 thousand miles, with all new adjustments such as 1 inch lower springs that make her handle like a modern car, but still maintaining the essence of a true Defender. 1.2 ratio transfer box allowing this to be comfortable at 75mph, unlike many classic Landy’s.
There’s not a shadow of a doubt that a ton of passion, dedication, and hard work went into getting it to where it is now. Sadly the owner is deciding to sell as they want to give this treatment to a series 3, listed for £19,495 on JustLandRovers.com
